Doing a pre-operative inspection of a machine is very important as it gives you a chance to observe if there are any damages, excessive wear or any leaks. Here is a quick guide to making sure your Komatsu Excavator meets the daily check requirements.

Start with a visual examination of the exterior of the Komatsu excavator

Inspect the bucket and look for cracks or damage and examine the teeth of the bucket. Remove any large pieces of debris from the bucket. Check if all the bolts are in place and ensure proper lubrication at all greasing points on the excavator. Inspect the arm and the boom. Take a quick look under the machines to notice any leaks.

Check the batteries

Do a quick inspection of the batteries and make sure there are no loose connections or any corrosions.

Inspecting the engine compartment

Perform a visual check around the engine, looking for any debris, leakage or damage. Inspect hydraulic lines for any signs of leaks that could cause equipment failure.

Check the fluids and filters

Analysis of the engine oil and hydraulic oil is mandatory to make sure there are no oil leaks. Every filter on the equipment must have its own check-off that says if it was cleaned or replaced. That includes oil, fuel, air and hydraulic filters. Check the fuel filter. It must be free of water and other contamination.

Check if there is an adequate level of radiator and the transmission coolants. Check for coolant leaks, fan assembly, damage of the caps, clamps and hoses and check the functioning of the water pump.

Inspection of the undercarriage

Take a quick look at the rollers, pads and shoes. Check the track tension and sprockets. Make sure there is no damage and wear.

Like any other heavy equipment, doing a preventive maintenance check helps to minimize the downtime of the Komatsu excavator as well. It is extremely cost-effective and helps machine owners to anticipate change, and wear and tear. Avoiding breakdowns also helps prevent permanent damage to the Komatsu excavator and lengthens its lifespan.
